AHS Fight Song Lyrics

Our team will always fight, rah-rah.

Our team is always right, rah-rah.
And we will make the rafter ring
As loyal Ames fans sing.
All loyal fans are we, rah-rah.
And proud we'll always be, rah-rah
To cheer our team to V-I-C-T-O-R-Y.
For Old Ames High.
(music)
Go, Ames, Go!
(music)
Go, Ames, Go!
Ames, Ames
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
(Repeat verse)

C.I.C. Song Lyrics (Central Iowa Conference 1926 to 1968)

We don't care 'bout the fame of ol' Marshalltown
Or the feats of Osky High;
And Grinnell is a team that we love to beat
And the same goes for old Boone High.
Oh! Don't send my poor boy to Newton
I'd rather see him die.
Send my boy to A.H.S.
It's the bestest of the best.
Lend an ear, give a cheer
For old Ames High School
Fight, fight, fight, fight
(music)
(clap, clap, clap, clap, clap)
Ames High
(Repeat verse)

The C.I.C. (Central Iowa Conference) Song isn't sung anymore because that conference, which included Ames, Boone, Grinnell, Marshalltown, Newton and Oskaloosa, no longer exists. It is still a good song, but not relevant anymore.

Some interesting history of the C.I.C. conference in an email (below) from Bill Ripp to Ed Hendrickson Jr. on 2/17/2007

Ed,

The CIC Conference started April 24, 1926 after earlier discussions involving charter members -- Ames, Boone, Grinnell, Marshalltown, Newton and Oskaloosa. The first three events held in the conference that spring were:

I think Ames was in the conference until the 1968 school-year when AHS joined Fort Dodge, Mason City, Waterloo East and West, Marshalltown and Newton in the new Big Seven, which later became the Big Eight when Waterloo Central opened.

I think this information is accurate, but I would want to check a couple of things to make sure, if it is going to be published "as gospel!"

Sincerely,

Bill Ripp

PS: AHS is currently in the Des Moines Metro Conference, of which there are three divisions of six teams each.

Big Eight Conference Song (1968- )

Tracey Stoll AHS 1974 alumna provided the following Big Eight Conference song lyrics. She had sung the song so much at AHS that she still had committed it to memory. Note, this song is and sung to the same tune as the C.I.C Conference song, and the words to both are very similar.

(sung fast)
We don't care 'bout the fame of ol' Marshalltown
Or the feats of Newton High;
Cedar Falls is a team that we love to beat,
and the same goes for Mason City High.
Yah Team!
Don't send your boys to Fort Dodge
I'd rather see them die.

(change in key and sing slowly)
Waterloo both East and West,
A.H.S. is still the best
Lend an ear, give a cheer
For old Ames High School
Fight, fight, fight, fight
(music)
(clap, clap, clap, clap, clap)
